Our Story

The Sustaining Ash Partners Network (SAP-Ne) was established in 2023, as the survival of ash species rapidly reaches a critical tipping point due to ongoing threats from the introduced forest pest emerald ash borer (EAB) in Northeastern forests. SAP-Ne builds on decades of collaboration to protect the health of ash across the landscape.

SAP-Ne aims to add collaborative capacity among Tribal Nations, state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and forest stewards at a regional level by encouraging landscape level actions to sustain ash. This includes sharing stories of hope for ash preservation, elevating the cultural significance of ash among Indigenous Peoples, offering workshops and webinars, and establishing a network of ash demonstration sites.

Our Mission

To promote collaborative approaches to ash preservation across the Northeastern U.S. by engaging forest stewards beyond borders, sharing stories of hope, and encouraging actions to sustain ash.

Our Vision

Ash is sustained across the landscape, especially where ash holds cultural significance among Indigenous Peoples, for future generations.
