  • University Forest Old Town, Maine 04468 (map)

About the training

SAP-Ne, APCAW, and partners are hosting two ash seed collection trainings to help participants identify and collect ash seeds and preserve ash populations threatened by the invasive emerald ash borer. Participants will use the Ash Seed Collection Manual developed by the APCAW lab.

This second session is open to the public and will be held at the University of Maine Forest in Old Town, Maine. A first training, held on August 31, is reserved for Tribal members and Tribal employees on Penobscot Nation lands.

What the training covers

  1. Equipment & identification. Presenters demonstrate how to harvest, process, and store ash seeds, including a walkthrough of essential equipment.

  2. Field practice. Attendees head into the field in small groups to see the full process and practice the techniques themselves.

  3. Prep & storage. The session wraps up with tips for cleaning and preparing seeds for storage or shipping.
